When search engines attack…

I want to share with you today, a story that is all about love, hatred and betrayal. It is an inspiring and gripping tale that will leave you wondering what the next chapter will bring. You can rest assured that there will be no end to this saga.

At it’s core, this is a classic story line. You know it very well, I’m sure. It is the quintessetional “boy meets search engine” tale. For those of you who are unaware, it goes something like this: Boy meets search engine, boy becomes besotted by the power and unparalled reach of the search engine, search engine kicks boy to the curb (for no apparent reason), boy’s account is suspended and his once thriving business is shut down overnight.

What I have just described, is the most recent round of ‘slaps’ for Adwords advertisers. For the purposes of this story, we’ll refer to the boy as “Cam” and the search engine as “Google” (this is actually based on a true story When search engines attack... .

From the very start, we could see the unbelievable power of Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising to drive traffic to our landing pages. It is fast, targetted and when done well, yields an extremely high ROI. We knew that the top earners rely almost exclusively on PPC to generate the number of leads necessary to build a profitable business in this industry. So from day one, Cam immersed himself in learning PPC. After a couple of months of full throttle study, he unleashed our campaign, and within four months, we had been recognized with a master marketing award by CCPro. It was a giddy ride. Cam loved the science and precision of PPC. We could see immediately which of our campaigns were working, and which weren’t. Our campaigns delivered us highly qualified leads within hours of turning them on, almost more than we could handle in fact.

But then the rules of engagement changed. Google, partly at the behest of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) went on the rampage in the home based business industry. Any Adwords campaigns that drove traffic to landing pages which were replicated, or obvious “biz opp” pages, were shut down. Use of trademarked company names in Adwords campaigns, such as Liberty League International, Lifepath or Global Resorts Network, also led to the shut down of the campaign.

Now, in some cases, accounts were ‘slapped’, and advertisers received a warning. In other cases, accounts were suspended (definitely more serious). Worse, some advertisers were advised in writing, that Google would not accept any advertising from them ever again.

Obviously, this is pretty devastating, but when we consider what has happened in the context of why it has happened, it is actually not as grim as you might imagine.

Having spent a lot of time listening to people such as Perry Marshall, Dr Glenn Livingston, Frank Kern and Cherie Yvette (as well as gleaning information from Google itself), it has become apparent that a couple of forces are at work here. Firstly, the FTC is cracking down on the home based business industry in a big way.

It would seem that there is a strong move to clean up the “get rich quick” marketers who extract a lot of money from people who are chasing a dream, and are generally not well suited to work this type of business (these same marketers give this industry a very bad name). This is a very good thing. For those of us conducting our businesses online with integrity and professionalism, this will narrow the pack considerably. It will also protect consumers to a greater degree than ever before.

Google enjoys market share online (a staggering 83.5% amongst a field of thousands of search engines), and the reason why, is because it consistently delivers value to searchers in the form of relevant, current and unique information on each and every search. So you can understand why Google might be inclined to crack down on replicated websites.

This is where a solid understanding of marketing principles is going to be absolutely critical to your success online. You will need to know how to research what your niche is searching for, and how to deliver that information to them in a professional manner. And the principles that underpin the way the search engines function are not likely to change in dramatically in any way, other than to continue to tighten up to protect searchers/consumers when they are online looking for products, services, businesses and information.

You have now joined the ‘Information Marketing’ industry. You will need to learn how to research and present high quality relevant information online, and in doing so, position yourself as a person of value and a leader.

So, in the final wash up, the ending is not necessarily the disaster it first appeared to be. Increase your value to the world, present your business in an honest and professional way, and stay abreast of search engine requirements (by tapping into as much training in the CCPro back office as you can), and you should be well positioned to enjoy a happy ending.

Make today a great one.

Day 7: “Nine Keys to Choosing the Right Company — a Company That Can Provide $1,000-$100,000 A Month Residual Income in Less than 12 Months”

Online businesses are no different to normal brick and mortar businesses. If you do your due diligence and follow a simple game plan, you’ll find a business that is the right fit for you. Here are the crucial questions you need answers to…

  1. An Unselfish Mission: Is the Company involved in any charities or programs to help others? Is the company doing something to benefit others in the future? Do they understand the universal principal of “what goes around comes around” or are they just in it for a quick buck? You’ve got to have a mission that puts the success of others first. Remember, helping other people to get what they want is the key to getting what you want. At CCPro, our goal is to help 100 people become millionaires within the next three years, and we’re on track to reach that goal. Plus CCPro assists a number of charities. Look at the leadership of the company. Are the leaders people of integrity?

  2. A Go-Ahead Industry: Direct Sales via Network Marketing. No other business model offers so much potential with so few barriers to entry (like start-up costs).

  3. A Fair Compensation Plan: Direct Sales rules, but only if it has a residual income based compensation plan. Stay away from the ‘two-up’ compensation plan found in most direct sales companies. This compensation plan is not fair and does not harbor team spirit because your over-rides on partners is limited to their first two customers.

Off-course, “fair” means different things to different people but the bottom line is that if you are going to be marketing a product for commission, you want to be earning a high commission bonus upfront as well as a residual income on the back end. Most compensation plans either have high upfront income and low residuals, or the other way round, with low upfront income and high residuals.

You need to find a company with an equal balance of the two.

Why is this so important when searching for a home-based business? When you start out in a new business, unless you have a great deal of capital behind you to “tide you over”, you will need to make high upfront commissions. Because otherwise you will find it impossible to build momentum.

  4. Products That Are In Demand & Can Stand-Alone: The long term profitability and viability of any company will be determined by the actual value of the products being sold. Remove the business opportunity and step back and examine the product on its own merits and ask yourself: “Would I want this product, would this product benefit me (or anyone else for that matter) if it didn’t have a business opportunity attached?” If you can’t honestly say that the product would be of value to you for its own sake then you are, in effect, selling buckets of air. And this means that the product is going to have a very short lifespan, because no one really wants it.

Forty percent of the products promoted by CarbonCopyPro are sold to product customers only, i.e. people not looking for a business opportunity. If the product being marketed won’t stand on its own, in other words if no one would buy it without the money-making incentive, then it’s not the right product.

Almost every day, new companies which are simply copying other companies spring out of nowhere.

Example: Does the world really need another weight loss or vitamin company? Are people crying out for another juice from a berry found only at the base of the Himalayas? The reality is “no”, because the marketplace is already flooded with this type of product. Plus, you’ll be competing against companies which have had products on the market for 50 or 60 years.

So what you need to find is a product that is unique and hard to copy. Because if it isn’t hard to copy, someone else will come along and try to replicate it very quickly.

  5. A Worthy Mentor: Find a mentor. Someone you can trust. Someone who has a system. Someone who is already getting the results you’re looking for. This has to be someone who is willing to listen to your needs and actually cares about your success. He/she must also have a financial interest in your success.

  6. Turnkey Duplicatable Marketing System: Use an Attraction Marketing system that does the sorting, selling, training, and follow-up for you. This system must not only attract (right keywords, ads etc) the right type of person (entrepreneur vs get-rich-quick lottery mentality), but be able to present the information in such a way that is clear, concise, to the point and not full of hype fluff or crazy promises.

Then figure out how to get 100-200 QUALITY targeted prospects into your marketing pipeline EACH week. (Remember, there are close to a million people looking for businesses every week and 79 million people in the USA alone plan to start their own business in the next 3-5 years!)

  7. Up To The Minute Training: Make sure you have access to one-on-one, and group training designed to dramatically shorten your learning curve and reduce the number of variables that come with “trial and error”. The CCPro system is designed to “share” the knowledge and experience with EVERY member through the daily training calls and forum. You can listen to the top producers working their businesses LIVE, 4 days a week, as if they were sitting in the office with you.

  8. Real Support: Unparalleled support is mandatory. With Carbon Copy Pro you get a team support list of 40 contacts and EVERYONE is highly motivated to help you reach the level of financial prosperity that you’re seeking, because we’re compensated extremely well in order to ensure that you do! If you do well, we do well.

  9. Plans To Expand: Make sure that whichever company you partner with has room to expand. If it is already close to reaching full market penetration then eventually your competition will become too fierce. There will be too many fish in a small pond. Also, if you are marketing online, can your product be shipped worldwide? Many nutritional products suffer from a maze of complicated legalities in different regions which may prevent you building a global business (and they are also perishable).

Information products are not normally subject to the same restrictions and are thus much more suitable for global online marketing. So look at the products you are planning to market, ask yourself if they can be marketed globally, and find out if the company has plans to expand globally in the future.

The average person in the home business industry will typically try out 7 different business opportunities before finding the right one. This not only wastes time, effort and money but creates huge frustration both to the individual and everyone close to them.

If you choose your new business using the 7 key questions in this report as a template, you’ll be better able to make the right decision first time round and create the ideal foundation for your future success.

This concludes your 7-day bootcamp. If you have any questions, you know how to reach us…

Our only question to you is, “What are you waiting for?” Learn more about earning a multiple six-figure income from home with CarbonCopyPRO…

Hi Sean,

It was great to speak with you today.

The video marketing training by Aaron Parkinson that I recommend to people wanting to get going on video marketing is in the back office, under the Training tab, in the Training Calls section. It is was recorded by Aaron Parkinson on the 7th of January this year.

I also strongly suggest you watch the new business planning webinar (it is held live every week) and you will be sent a training schedule every week by CCPro with times and instructions to attend the calls. It will help you make a decision re positioning in WMI.

Recommended resources to read to get you started:

  • “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T Harv Ecker
  • “The Four-Hour Work Week” by Timothy Ferris
  • “Magnetic Sponsoring” by Mike Dillard

I can’t recommend this reading list highly enough. The “Magnetic Sponsoring” book is particularly good in terms of teaching you about branding and positioning and leadership. It is brilliant. You can purchase that product through our affiliate link if you like.

We make a commission on that sale www.IanShiltonMarketing.com and when you have bought products from Magnetic Sponsoring, you will automatically get you own affiliate account set up for you, which you can use to market to your own list and make commissions on (that is the point at which you start making money in your sleep!).

Mike Dillard is a legend. Really inspiring person.

It was hard not to be impressed when I met him. Really lovely guy. I have digressed a little on my list, but given that you are “offline” a bit at the moment, there will be plenty of things to keep you going here. And it is good (and important) not to get too bogged down in front of the computer. The reading is a valuable opportunity to get away from the screen.

This should keep you out of trouble for a bit. Let us know when you are on Skype, and when you are ready for a call, and I can schedule one.

PayPal? Naming a Domain? Marketing?

Hi Frank,

Re Paypal, I did go with Paypal. But CCPro advises against it because they can be very uncooperative, for no apparent reason. Eway is a new way to go in Australia and New Zealand. It’s now recommended by CCPro for Aust and NZ. I was talking with the head IT guy at the CCPro event the other day. He was very pleased to see Eway come along. But I’ve checked it out and it does seem quite expensive and more complex than Paypal. It’s up to you. Check out the back office and choose Eway or Paypal. I’ve got to say I haven’t had any problems with Paypal. They’re cheap and EVERYBODY is comfortable making a payment to Paypal. Follow their instructions regarding “verifying” your account and you should be okay.

Re landing page. It is important to choose a good domain name. I will send you a message I sent earlier today to Sean ….

Hi Sean,

In answer to you question … “how to change the name of your website”. To change the name of you website you go to GoDaddy.com and purchase a name that you think is good. Ours, as you may know, is IanShiltonProMarketing.com/thankyou.php

I chose that name because it “describes” what I am offering very well “www.IanShiltonProMarketing.com”

So the name, “IanShiltonMarketing.com”, is like an advertisement for the opportunity. It’s very descriptive and attractive for people looking for an auto biz they can run from home.

It works really well in, for instance, a Google ad.

Looking for a home based business?

The beauty of IanShiltonMarketing.com is that you don’t have to explain, in your ad, that your business opportunity is automated, web-based or that it involved sales, because all that info is inferred in the name of my website.

So try to choose something similar. Like autobusinessonline.com or autopilotbusiness.com autoonlinebiz.com, onlinebizinabox.com etc. Use your imagination. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect because you can change at any time.

Do not choose names like bigmikesbigbucks.com or stuff like that, which sounds unprofessional. Also, personally, I think names like 6figureguru.com and makemillionsonline.com and names like that are very “last year” and “hypey”. Big turnoff. You can bet your right arm that anyone advertising a site called heybigspender.com or richbeyondyourdreams.com, is actually broke or close to it PayPal? Naming a Domain? Marketing? .

I may be wrong but that’s what I think people “out there” would be thinking (the “yeah right” factor).

IanShiltonMarketing.com is subdued and down to earth.

Of course one of the best names you can call your website is your own name. Our sponsor is Ann McLaren. Her website is annmclaren.biz and she is the top performing female in the company. I am going to try using Ian ShiltonZadow.com in our ads and see if that helps. Having your name as our website is personal, and brands you as a leader and someone not ashamed to let everyone know who you are. Very effective.

Then you have to mask that name and forward it to www.oneyearplan.net/sean …. etc etc. It’s all a bit convoluted. You just have to get your head around masking, forwarding, domains, urls etc. It will kind of make sense after a while. I’m probably getting a bit old for this stuff now PayPal? Naming a Domain? Marketing?

The best thing I found was when I rang GoDaddy.com, after I bought a domain. They were actually really helpful. Just ring them and say you want to mask and forward www.oneyearplan.net/sean etc. to www(yournewgodaddydomain).com. The guy I spoke to told me what to do and it was fixed in minutes. This was after days of trying to figure out their system on my own.

best wishes,

Ian Shilton

Best way to start getting it out there is via Google but it also costs and it is quite a learning curve. If you have done any marketing before try that method first, whatever that was. If it’s all new take a good long, slow and considered look through the option available in the back office. See which one resonates best with you. For me it was Google. But for you it might be newspapers, or video or article marketing etc. There are heaps of options.

  • Facebook
  • MySpace
  • Press Releases
  • Article Marketing
  • Squidoo
  • Blogging
  • Google
  • Video Marketing
  • Banner Advertising
  • Forum Marketing
  • Directories
  • Free Classifieds
  • Ebay
  • Ezine Marketing
  • Warm Market Email
  • Newspapers and Magazines

But I have to say Google is the best. All the top earners swear by it.

To be honest, I’d be getting Perry Marshall’s Definitive Guide to Google Adwords and starting there. That’s what I did and I never looked back. Here is a link to his five day free training which you can check out before you purchase his definitive guide… http://perrymarshall.com/cmd.php?pg=Ian Shilton

Then you can get training and advice specific to CCPro from The Urban Cowgirl, Cherie Evette, whose training calls are recorded in the back office under the training tab. She is contracted to CCPro and is an absolute Google Goddess. Her calls are very, very good. Because they are specific to CCPro, our business. She’ll give you all the stats you should be hitting.

Remember it will all seem too much for a start. That’s because it is too much for a start. You have to give your subconscious mind time to absorb all the new info. Eventually it becomes accepted/second nature.

Slow and steady wins the race. Do 40-50 minutes then have a ten min break, or you will drive yourself nuts and start going round in circles. Try to be patient. Things will happen, but not as fast as you want (in my experience anyway).

Thats really helpful. Been dabbling with the social media sites but mainly trying to get my head into writing about myself…. very confronting….. but also helps with the Millionaire Mindset and goal setting and self belief, not to mention more social interaction and putting oneself out there [Ian Shilton: yeah, at the end of the day, just be yourself. Big mistake most people make is they try to be "impressive"].

Have been following Erika Hurricat and love her commitment to the cause [Ian Shilton: I'll have to check her out]. Also listened to all the Guerrilla Marketing recorded training calls [Ian Shilton: excellent.] But also my brain has to learn a whole new circuit.

Just read a book called “The BrainThat Changes Itself” by Normn Doidge and it gave me hope that anything is possible. There is so much info on the info that its hard to stay on one thing at a time [Ian Shilton: good work, that's the trick (I think) to know that you have to focus on one thing at a time] Actually I have some Lifewave Patches that i have put on my temples … they’ve actually eased the brain strain [Ian Shilton: haha].

Anyway thanks Ian Shilton I will check out Perry Marshall. Actually just got my first lesson.

I’ve listened a bit to Cherie but it went over my head a bit but I’ll go back to her again [Ian Shilton: yeah start at the Google 101 stuff then].

Better go back to business. Thanks again and talk soon

Negative Comments About CarbonCopyPRO

Dear PRO members,

As our company continues to grow you will notice some things start to happen. One of these things is people posting negative comments about us. To my knowledge, none of them have been from customers which is amazing. The people who do post them are either looking to leverage our traffic to sell something else or just looking for attention.

We know that many of you are passionate and want to respond and protect our reputation and we sincerely thank you for that. The problem, however, is that the more you engage these people the higher these conversations and websites move up the organic Google rankings.

Please understand that responding to negative publicity is actually very counter-productive. You are better off to ignore it and focus on your business.

(This also includes comments about other members or employees)
